Minister Pieter Groenewald launches Corrections Week 2026 and announce National Garden Project winner, 21 Sept
Minister of Correctional Services, Dr Pieter Groenewald, will officially launch Corrections Week 2026 at Goodwood Art Gallery, Cape Town, on 21 September 2026 under the theme: “Correcting Offending Behaviour, Restoring Dignity and Rebuilding Communities through Arts andCrafts”. Corrections Week will run from 20 to 26 September 2026 and aims to promote public awareness and understanding of the correctional system.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) will open all nine (9) of its Arts and Crafts Galleries across the country, at Goodwood, Makhanda (Grahamstown), Pietermaritzburg, Empangeni, Kokstad, Kgosi Mampuru II, Leeuwkop, Groenpunt and Klerksdorp, to the public this week. South Africans will be able to visit, view and purchase quality products produced by offenders as part of DCS’ Self-Sufficiency and Sustainability Programme. Every purchase directly supports rehabilitation and skills development, restores dignity and helps to rebuild communities.
The campaign seeks to increase public understanding of rehabilitation through arts and crafts, encourage community participation in reintegration and crime prevention, strengthen partnerships and market linkages for offender products, and promote social reintegration. As part of Corrections Week, on the same day, Minister Groenewald will proceed to the Malmesbury Correctional Facility on the West Coast to officiate at the announcement of the National Winner of the DCS Garden Project. The Garden Project is an initiative aimed at improving the living environment and the standard of gardens of correctional officials residing in official departmental accommodation, promoting pride, wellness and sustainability.
